Corten Weathering Guide

Corten Steel starts life a grey silver colour - this is likely how your item will arrive as our signs are all made to order.

The orange/rust like patina (finish) will start to develop almost immediately after being exposed to the elements.

The colour development will continue, initially becoming a vibrant rust orange.

After approximately six months the colour will darken and settle, but will continue to evolve over time

The colouring / run off from Corten steel can leave residue - to avoid any discolouring of mounting surfaces, particularly for paler coloured walls, we recommend the 'floating' mounting options which slightly raise the sign from the wall.

We also suggest laying the sign flat for a few days before mounting, to allow the majority of the run off to happen whilst on a non-stainable surface

*All items are unique and will weather and colour at a different pace, depending on the environment it is placed in. This is part of the beauty of Corten!

** Gentle warning - you may experience some transference of the rust like finish whilst the Corten develops its patina (colour). This is normal & expected; please take care with clothing and materials the items come into contact with. You may wish to wear gloves when handling the product.
